Union members earn better wages
Union members earn better wages and benefits than workers who aren’t union members. On average, union workers’ wages are 30 percent higher than their nonunion counterparts, fully 68 percent of union workers do. More than 97 percent fo funion workers have jobs that provide health insurance benefits, but only 85 percent of nonunion workers do. June 16, 2010, Kathmandu. Financial Institutions Employees Union of Nepal (FIEUN) organized a peace rally in the capital today to protest the kidnapping of its one of the member and an employee of Mid Regional Rural Development Bank by an unidentified group.Union members from different banks, insurance and other finance companies took part in the rally. They carried a banner and placard with the photo of kidnapped member Mr. Bishwonath Adhikari. FIEUN is angry and criticizes the government for its apathy over the incident.
"We were forced to organize this peace rally to exert pressure on the government after it turned its deaf ear to our appeal for immediate safe release of Mr. Adhikari", said Ganesh Bahadur KC, President of FIEUN.
